My name is Óscar. I was born in Málaga in 1993 and I’ve lived here my entire life.
Since 2015 I’ve worked at Málaga airport — in handling, on the ground, watching planes arrive every day from cities across Europe I’d never heard of before. Cities that now send hundreds of passengers a week to a place I call home.
I’ve watched Málaga change faster than any city its size should change. I’ve seen neighbourhoods transform, prices rise, familiar bars close and new ones open for a different kind of customer. I’ve watched the tourist numbers grow every year without stopping, and I’ve watched the guides that are supposed to help those tourists stay exactly the same — the same lists, the same recommendations, the same ten things to do copied from the same ten sources.
That’s why I built this website.
«imfrommalaga.com is not a tourist board. It’s not sponsored content dressed up as honest advice. It’s what I’d tell a friend who called me and said: I’m coming to Málaga for five days, what should I actually do?»
What I actually know
I know which neighbourhoods are worth staying in and which ones will disappoint you. I know where locals eat on a Sunday and where tourists end up by mistake. I know which day trips are worth the journey and which ones you can skip. I know what Málaga actually is — not the version that appears in brochures, but the city I walk through every day.
I know that the centre is small and that’s not a problem. I know that the best meal in the province is in a venta in the hills above the city that no guide has ever mentioned. I know that the beach at Pedregalejo on a Tuesday evening is one of the best free things in Europe. I know that the tourist who leaves disappointed almost always arrived with the wrong expectations — and that the right information, given honestly, fixes that completely.
This guide is honest because I live here. That’s the only qualification that matters.
Work with imfrommalaga.com
If you’re a business based in Málaga or the province — a hotel, a restaurant, a tour operator, a golf course, a transfer company — and you want to reach the kind of traveller who does their research before arriving, get in touch.
I only work with businesses I’d genuinely recommend to a friend. That’s not a marketing line — it’s the only way this website works. If the content isn’t honest, the audience disappears. And the audience is what makes working with imfrommalaga.com worth anything to you.
